Unique Selling Point

The target audience for my magazine will be for both men and women, aged 16-30, who are interested in indie and rock music. Circulation figures would be around 20,000 every 2 weeks and it would cost £2.50 to purchase.

Magazine name ideas

LSF- Inspired by the Kasabian song, LSF(Lost Souls Forever).
505- From the Arctic Monkeys album, Favourite Worst Nightmare.
Fast Fuse- Song by Kasabian which features on their album Empire.

To create my magazine I will use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Indesign. Also to make my magazine unique I will get fonts from websites such as www.dafont.com. I will use this website to create the title for my magazine.

I have researched into the sales figures of various magazines. The sales of indie magazines is 77,888 and rock magazines is 325,518. Showing that rock magazines sell more than indie. Therefore im going to try and incooperate both genres of music into my magazine.

St Marys College Magazine

I have chosen to design a magazine for my college. I have used a student from the college to be the main image of the magazine. The student has been photographed to look out the magazine, this is using direct mode of address to capture the audiences attention. I have used bright lighting in the image to make the the student stand out of the magazine.I have chosen to anchor the text, "Big Penny Does It Again". I have placed used this text because it is the main subject of the magazine. Also it makes the reader want to find out what is featured in the magazine because the text doesn't reveal what the article is about. I have also used the college logo, so that the audience can instantly recognise the magazine as a college magazine. I have chosen the colours red and yellow as the theme as the magazine because yellow and red are two of the colours that represent the college. As you can see the magazine  is very basic. If I was to remake the magazine I would include more features: Strap line, website address and many other features to make my magazine look more professional.

Analysis Of Music Magazines

This is a typical music magazine that would be found in shops across the UK. The magazine above is the front cover of NME music magazine. This edition features Noel Gallagher from the Band oasis. The way in which Noel has been photographed makes him look like he is looking out of the magazine and immediately addresses the audience this is a direct mode of address. Another technique used is the tag line,"Noel hits boiling point over Liam, Jack White and those Kasabian boys" This another way of advertising whats in the magazine. By mentioning the Gallagher brothers and there split up will attract the audience to buy the magazine.

The NME colour scheme is red, white and black. It has been these colours since came out , this makes it instantly recognisable. The main article ,"oasis" is in big bold font to attract the reader. The NME magazine usually has the main features of a magazine,Title/Header, One main model/star, Leading Caption, Subheadings and Strap lines.

Contents

Above is an image a contents page from an NME magazine. Contents pages always have to be bright, colourful and clear, to ensure the reader is attracted to read the magazine. Contents pages, like front covers, also have a main image and a page number where the article can be found. A contents page also usually includes a header and this edition has the header, "NME THIS WEEK". On the right hand side of this contents page it also has the sections: News, Radar,Reviews, Live and features.
